J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Runner Runner.
Here are five things you need to know about Runner Runner, whose self-titled debut album hits drops September 28.
Singer Ryan Ogren, guitarists Nick Bailey and Peter Munters, bassist Jon Berry, and drummer James Ulrich make up the band Runner Runner, the first group signed to David Letterman's record label, Clear Entertainment. The group got their name from a poker term that means beating the odds and getting the two perfect cards you need to win. "We applied that term to our band because there are so many talented artists, bands, and songs out that you need a little luck to make it in this business and come out on top," Ryan tells J-14.
Their single "So Obvious" is a love song to the people you're far away from when you travel a lot, like Runner Runner does. "The story is no matter where I am or where you are, it's so obvious that my heart beats for you and everything is going to be okay," Ryan explains.
Runner Runner is currently on tour with Secondhand Serenade, The White Tie Affair, and Camera Can't Lie through September 4. Check out an official list of tour dates here.
Ryan and Peter always bring something with them on tour to remind them of home -- Ryan takes along a picture of his puppy Jerry George, and Peter carries his blanket from home.
Peter tells J-14 that when he was 14, he snuck out of his house to check out the classic punk bands MXPX and Reel Big Fish at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. "My mom didn't know and I wasn't allowed to go to show," he says. "I'm sorry, Mom!"
