J-14 is scouting out the hottest bands around... and this week's pick is Stars Go Dim!
Here are five things you need to know about Stars Go Dim who's on tour and getting ready to release their new album Between Here And Now this fall!
This pop-rock band full of soul consists of vocalist Chris Cleveland, guitarist and songwriter Joey Avalos, and bassist Michael Wittig. From Tulsa, OK, each member came from a hard rock band with Stars Go Dim as a side project. However, that didn't last for long. "Once we wrote our first full length record we knew that we were going to be more than a side project," Joey tells J-14.
Originally Michael came up with the band name Stars Go Dim because he liked how it sounded. However, after time, it took on a deeper meaning. "To us the name means 'a start of a new day' or a 'fresh start' cause when the stars go dim the sun rises on a new day," Joey explains. "It seemed fitting since this band is a 'fresh start' from what we have been doing musically in the past."
Though they've stuck to their pop-rock vibe, Joey tells J-14 they've grown up from their debut album: as a band and as songwriters. "The album is a collection of songs that we've been working on since our last album Love Gone Mad released in 2009. The songs on this album really showcase who we are as a band and where we are heading," He says. "We have always been a band that just wants to write good song and hopefully songs that can relate to people that listen to it."
These guys are no strangers to touring. They've shared the stage with Paramore, Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers, and many more! A highlight? "We got to go on a cruise with John Mayer, which wasn't a bad gig. Also, we played with American Idol's Chris Daughtry. He let us open up for him in our hometown of Tulsa," Joey tells J-14. "Such a nice gesture. The show was already sold out and he didn't need an opener but he gave us 45 minutes to play to his fans. We will never forget that."
"Hesitate", the first single off their new album, was initially a completely different song with melancholy melodies called "Ava". "We came up with the new concept of capturing a relationship when two people know they want to be with each other but both are hesitant to make the first move," Joey tells J-14.
