J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is Cady Groves.
Here are five things you need to know about Cady Groves, whose album The Life of a Pirate is out now!
Cady Groves is an adventurous singer/songwriter who graduated from high school early, went to culinary school at age 16, and then enrolled at Southwestern Oklahoma State University after a random drive took her from Los Angeles to Oklahoma. SWOSU is where she met her best friend Evan, who was as musically-inclined as Cady and has helped her make her music. "I have wanted to do this ever since I can remember," Cady tells J-14. "I always knew i wouldnt let myself settle for anything less -- this is just what i need to do."
Her single, "I'm Still Here," is about an ex-boyfriend she had trouble getting over. "I wrote it about the only relationship I ever had that completely ruined me when it ended," she explains. "I would sit and wait and pray that I would be enough and he would come back."
Cady is currently on The Stuck on Repeat Tour with Stereo Skyline, Cash Cash, and The Downtown Fiction. It wraps up on August 22 in Vineland, NJ. Check here for official dates.
The one thing Cady always has to have with her on tour is her cowboy boots. "Gotta rock the boots! Full time job," she says.
Cady has become good friends with Good Charlotte's Joel and Benji Madden. "I'm lucky for that because they are the most amazing people I've ever met," she tells J-14. Fame has never phased them, and they treat every single person they meet with complete respect and love. They taught me so much on tour. The coolest thing they said to me was, "If your dreams seem super crazy, that's how you know you're dreaming right. Promise us you won't stop."
