J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is Joe Brooks.
Here are five things you need to know about Joe Brooks, whose album Constellation Me is out now!
Before he embarked on his music career, Joe used to play tennis competitively! "From about the age of four, I can actually remember my first ever tennis lesson," Joe tells J-14. "It meant so much to me, and still does. I played competitively up until I was 16, and then just traded in the racket for the acoustic."
The title of his album, Constellation Me, is inspired by his journey and growth from the past six years. "The album is so diverse lyrically and musically." Joe says. "Constellation Me is basically the constellation of me. It's all these songs, you know, if you put them together, you kind of make my life from this period of 16 to 22. So, there's a lot about getting out there and seeing the world."
Joe's most personal song on the album is called "These Broken Hands of Mine." It's about going to Africa with his father when he was 19 to build houses for the less fortunate. "We built three houses in two weeks," Joe tells J-14. "It moved me a lot to just see hope and light in these communities. It's a song about finding your place and finding your meaning."
Aside from making music, Joe is also trying his hand at acting! He has been on various auditions in LA, and has just finished shooting his music video for his song "Superman."
Joe's first single, "Superman," is about a girl that he went to school with and is still very good friends with! "It's just that classic story of being in high school and wanting the hot, popular girls. I was never one of the popular guys," Joe says. "Its just a cute little innocent story about wanting to be with a popular girl and seem to be popular."
