J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is L2.
Here are five things you need to know about L2 whose single "Insomnia" is out on iTunes now!
Pop duo L2 consists of sisters Jessica and Melissa, also formerly known as The Labbadia Sisters. "We started singing when we were about three years old and we started doing musical theater in about the second grade," Melissa tells J-14. "And then when Jess was 12 and I was 15 we started our group together and we wrote our own song and went to the studio and we've been doing it ever since."
L2 has evolved throughout the years, drifting from pop-rock to now, mostly pop based. "We had a band and stuff like that and now we're more pop. We have dancers. It's more fun," they say. As radio music evolved, so did they. "Eight years is a long time, it's like as things change, you have to change with it."
Some of L2's musical inspirations include Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Rihanna. "We say that our music is a combination of all of those put together," they say. "Also Lady Gaga because she's an amazing performer and she's very creative and artistic so we really love her."
Though they've been singing for years now, the sisters still get nervous before big performances. "I think nerves are good. It's a good nervous," they tell J-14. "Probably the most nervous we got was when we sang the national anthem at the Mets game. That was a couple of months ago and it was like so many people showed up. It was so like never wracking even though we had sang it so many times - just so many people."
5. L2's current single "Insomnia" is something that practically ever girl can relate to -- love. "'Insomnia' is basically about being so infatuated by this guy that you can't sleep, you can't eat, you can't think about anything else but him," they tell J-14. "We've definitely been through that, and I'm sure a lot of girls have been too."
