Get the inside scoop on Brendan Meyer, star of Disney XD's Mr. Young! J-14 had a great time catching up with the lead funny man to ask him all about the show, what he loves to do in his free time, and the number one thing girls do that absolutely baffles him.
J-14: How'd you get started in acting?
Brenden Meyer: I grew up in Edmonton, Canada, where acting was always a hobby of mine. It was just something that I did from age six. I didn't do it seriously and didn't have an agent for a while. Then when I was 10, I decided I wanted to get an agent. So my mom helped me get an agent and I started auditioning at Edmonton. I was lucky enough to get a show that got me an agent in Vancouver. Vancouver's the big hub of auditioning in Canada; people call it Hollywood North. To get an agent there was good. I've been doing the normal thing, going out for auditions, coming close, getting a couple things here and there. I've been doing that for five years. And then I got this job.
J-14: How are you similar to your character on Mr. Young.
Brendan: The character I play is Adam Young, a 14-year-old genius who graduated from a university at 14 and decided to go back to high school to become a teacher. He's the same age as the kids in his class. I'm similar to him in some ways- I'd like to think I have some of his confidence. I found that being an actor on a TV show is a lot like his predicament. I'm doing an adult job and sometimes I have to work 12-hour days. At the same time, I'm having normal kid problems, and I'm still growing up and figuring out who I am.
J-14: What do you do for fun when you're not on set and you're not filming?
Brendan: My favorite thing to do is to watch movies and catch up on all the movies that just came out. I really love [show] business, so a lot of the time when I'm not on set, I go to the movies to catch up on the latest stuff. I also run around the neighborhood a lot because it clears my head.
J-14: What is your idea of the best date?
Brendan: The best date for me would be a nice dinner and then a show; it could be a movie, a play or even a sports game, as long as it's some kind of fun, cool thing to do together. Afterwards, we'd go for some kind of dessert and talk about what we've just seen. That would be perfect for me. That would be the perfect date. It would be fun. You would experience something new together and it would be interesting. That's what I'd go for.
J-14: What's one thing that you just don't understand about girls?
Brendan: I don't understand why they go to the bathroom together, it doesn't make sense to me. I don't understand! Guys don't go to the bathroom with guys, it's different. With guys, if you walk out of the stall and see your buddy, it's awkward. It's different, I don't understand it. I don't want to see my buddy going to the urinals right next to me, it's weird. It's weird, right?
