When you turn on your TV and hear about Syria in the news, you're likely to hear about the political unrest and picture a very dangerous and scary place. But J-14 reader Farah lives right in the heart of Syria and guest blogs about her life... which you'll see is not too different than your own!
Hey guys! It's Farah. I'm a Syrian teenage girl who lives in Damascus. I have a great family and my life's so great. I'm sure that you're saying now what kind of "great life" does she have in Syria? But believe me, the news is all wrong and actually my life is still normal just the way it was before.
I've had a peaceful life in Syria since I was a little girl -- we'll always have this gift because my life hasn't changed. So many good things are happening so far --Â it's all good, safe and normal.
I'm continuing everything I was doing, like my piano lessons, my choir rehearsals and -- the most important thing -- the teen magazine that I've been working on for the last two months called Teen World. I want the world to understand us through my magazine. It has everything that we've ever wanted to hear or to know about -- and it's unique because it's handmade.
The magazine's not famous now, but I hope it'll be after 10 years. I'm so thankful for my friends and my parents for the big support that I've received from them since I've been working on the magazine. Awww...
Speaking of friends, I haven't told you about my inspiring, supportive, and understanding friends yet! They represent a great part of my heart. We spend time hanging out together and we do a lot together --Â we have Wii meetings (meeting at someone's house to play Wii) and movie nights to watch movie premieres. We do the same things that all teens do from all around the world.
Now let me tell you more about myself: Like all the other girls, I have Bieber Fever! (I llooovvvveeeeeeee Justin Bieber!). I also like Selena Gomez, Willow Smith, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers. My friends are more interested in Rihanna, Akon, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears.
My favorite TV shows are America's Got Talent, Arabs' Got Talent, Project Runway, The Suite Life on Deck, Desperate Housewives, and Wizards of Waverly Place. Oh and I almost forgot Glee -- the best show ever! It has the best kind of music that I like. I love music, who doesn't? I've played the piano for eight years.
I've had so many other conversations and experiences with teens from several different countries and I've discovered that we all share a lot of stuff, don't you agree?
