If you're a fan of the High School Musical movies and are just as equally obsessed with the Descendants series, then you have one genius to thank: the one and only Kenny Ortega. He directed all of these movie musical extravaganzas — along with other beloved classics Hocus Pocus and The Cheetah Girls 2 — so you know, props to Kenny for creating some of the best moments of so many people's childhoods. Disney Channel announced back in March of 2016 that High School Musical 4 was officially happening and while this movie is set to usher in a whole new batch of Wildcats, fans wanted to know who from the OG crew would be back.

While Kenny isn't directing this new movie and most of the first cast has said they are ready to pass on the torch and won't be appearing in this DCOM, Kenny was recently asked by Just Jared Jr about casting the lead roles, and it seems like he might still be able to weigh-in when it comes to finding this new generation.

"I would think that we're just gonna go out there and find the greatest talent that we can," Kenny said. And as for what exact qualities make a WC?

"[They have to] be ready for it. Ready for the experience and have the fearless determination to do something great," he said.

Well, that's a good thing to keep in mind for anyone who has their sights on starring in the DCOM! Although there hasn't been any major update since the first big casting call, it's safe to assume that the movie is still underway and it simply takes time to find the perfect actors to take on this new era. And there is still Descendants 2 to look forward to in July, which Kenny is super pumped for fans to see. He knows his cast — which includes Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart and China Anne McClain — worked so hard to make this sequel the best it can be.

"My cast, for one, they’re not only triple threat actors, singer, dancers, they're partners. And every day they come prepared, passionate, excited and they help me raise the bar on ourselves. They’ve grown so much as artists and everyone that’s seen the movie has said it’s the strongest cast the Disney Channel's ever had," Kenny gushed.

That's a bold statement coming from the man himself! Between D2 and HSM, it's clear Kenny is forever and always a Disney Channel legend.
