March 8 is the day that countries around the world celebrate International Women's Day. The holiday is the one day out of the year that celebrates "the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women" around the world. While it has been celebrated for over a century some people might still not know how to participate or understand what it is really all about.

Celebrities are using social media to voice their thoughts and feelings on this special day while honoring the women who came before them or the ones that are around them making the world a better place every single day.

The A Day Without A Woman strike is also taking place on this year, which is being organized by the group who brought us the Women's March on Washington and is supposed to represent a day in which the country gets to experience what it would be like without women. Some women and girls are choosing to not go to school, work, purchase anything, etc. to show what an impact it would make if they did not exist.

While not everyone has the option to not attend work or miss school, there are other ways you can contribute. Katy Perry listed some things like wearing the color red in solidarity with all women and suggested everyone buying local or not buying anything at all.

You can celebrate by being kinder to other girls, by expressing your love and gratitude for the special women in your life, and by vowing to continue making strides in your education and everything you do so that together we can strive to be more.
