Liam Payne will be aiming for a number one hit with his debut song as a solo artist. It has been reported that Liam is getting some backup from none other than Ed Sheeran for his first song since One Direction went on hiatus and who better than the "Shape of You" hitmaker to help start off his solo career?

So far, the new dad is the only member of 1D that has yet to release a solo song but he has been hard at work in the studio perfecting his craft and writing the song with Ed and working with many different producers. While there is no word on whether Ed's vocals will be in the song, his writing will be.

Speaking to The Sun, a source: “Liam and Ed have been friends for years, ever since Ed first wrote for One Direction on their debut album."

“The collaboration actually came about very quickly, earlier this year. Liam was in Los Angeles and was told that Ed was beginning to write a song with Liam in mind. Liam rushed back to the UK and the pair of them wrote the track together and then recorded it."

“With Ed’s expertise in creating a hit Liam knows they can’t go wrong. They have produced something special together. Having Ed on board is a clever move too, as it means he will reach music fans beyond just 1D obsessives.”

Ed has been part of the band's history for a while now, having written five songs for the guys including "Little Things" and he is even super close friends with Harry Styles. It was recently announced that Liam would be collaborating with Quavo from rap group Migos on an upcoming song, so his new sound is already looking to be quite different than his music with One Direction. Ed is a pro at writing songs, so we can only imagine what these two cooked up together.
