Louis Tomlinson kept his promise to his mother Johanna Deakin, and performed his new single, “Just Hold On,” with DJ Steve Aoki on The X Factor, over the weekend.
The singer didn’t miss a single beat as he hit the stage, and was met with applause and a standing ovation from the judges – including Simon Cowell who shared some very touching words with the One Direction member as both clearly held back their emotions.
Simon told the singer, “Louis, I have to say something to you. I’ve known you now for six years. What you’ve just done, and the bravery, I respect you as an artist. I respect you as a person. Your mom was so proud of you, Louis and she was so looking forward to tonight. She’s watching down on you now and you’ve done her proud.”
Fans also began trending the hashtag #ProudofLouis on Twitter, and writing messages of encouragement to the singer.
Louis also took some time to thank fans for all the support being shown to him over the performance with a tweet.
That was harder than I ever imagined. I want to thank everyone around me and all of the amazing fans out there that made that so special!— Louis Tomlinson (@Louis_Tomlinson) December 11, 2016

It was incredibly brave of Louis to go out there and perform just days after such a heartbreaking loss. We’re incredibly proud of him as well for showing such strength, and will continue to keep him and his family in our thoughts.
