Ever find yourself wondering if the guys of One Direction get a little nostalgic every now and then and take a trip down memory lane, cranking up some of their old tunes? Tbh, who doesn’t. The Up All Night era was a much simpler time and hearing Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and yes even Zayn Malik‘s baby voices sing those adorable songs can still thaw even the coldest of hearts. Well, the band’s biggest fan, yes we’re referring to Niall, just recently admitted he’s still 1D af.

“I listen to One Direction stuff now, yeah it will obviously come on and some days I’ll think of a song and want to listen to it,” he said in an interview with Entertainment City. “I like a song called ‘Stockholm Syndrome,’ a song called ‘Fireproof.’ When I hear these songs, I can hear my own flavors in it, and then there’s everyone else’s flavors on top so I got to express myself a lot in the band.”

OK, so let’s all just take a moment to reflect on the fact that Niall still jams out to One Direction’s songs every now and then simply because he feels like it.

Literally all too much to handle. And he didn’t stop there. The “Slow Hands” singer went on to explain that he totally gets how and why the band appealed to so many people, which stems from the fact that the guys were simply 100% their authentic selves.

“When we started we were very young so we had to in weird ways mature and become independent, even though we were probably literally the most immature people on the planet, it was like being in school for six years. It was great, but at the same time we had to mature in different ways and the way we were perceived and be role models in a way. It’s a lot for a 17, 18-year-old to handle. I think that was part of the appeal with One Direction, people could just tell we were five normal lads having a good time,” he said.

Truer words have never been spoken. The early days of the band are some of the most treasured and you can for sure tell they all were having the time of their lives together.

But we’re now dealing with 5 totally separate solo artists at the moment and while our bank accounts might be taking some hits (albums, tours, merch all at the same time boys!), the guys are all nothing but happy for each other and their individual successes, according to Niall.

“If we were releasing the same types of music then it probably would be competitive, I would imagine. But we’re not, we’re doing completely different stuff so there’s room for us all, it’s great. And everyone is doing well, the fans are still right there with us,” he said.

They have all proven to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders, that’s for sure. And as for his highly anticipated solo album? Well, it’s coming eventually and he promises the songs will be like “This Town,” where they’re obviously inspired by what Niall himself is going through, yet told in a way that anyone can feel a connection to the tune.

“A lot of it is very personal stuff but I’m 23 so it’s probably not that deep to a lot of people,” Niall joked. “I like to write songs where it’s relatable. It doesn’t have to be about me all the time, so even the songs that are about me and about personal stuff, there will be a scenario that everyone has been in that’s similar.”

So he’s promising to be the soundtrack of our lives pretty much. We’ll be waiting.
