Ed Sheeran pulls from his own life for song inspiration, which is why everyone was wondering who inspired the song about an ex cheating on him with a friend! Although it's rumored that "Don't" is about Niall Horan and Ellie Goulding, Ed has never confirmed or denied the gossip. However, in a new interview on Howard Stern's radio show, Ed hinted at some girl drama with one of the members of One Direction.

When asked whether "Don't" references one of the 1D guys, Ed initially refused to comment.

“The papers says a lot of things,” he said. “I have kept my mouth shut about a lot of things. I think if you add any fuel to any fire…I didn’t really come out of that situation upset. I just thought it was a bit disrespectful. I got over it as soon as the song was done and the song happened pretty soon after."

Ed says that he confronted his friend about the breach in bro code after it happened.

"It’s a difficult conversation to have," he said. "He was my mate, so I was just a bit like, ‘um not cool, but…’”

“That was the guy in One Direction, right?” Stern interrupted.

Ed denied that it was, but he then added, “Well, it depends which one you’re talking about."

While Ed is still being cryptic about the people who inspired his song, he basically admitted that he had some girl drama with at least one of the members of One Direction! We're pretty sure he's not talking about Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, or Liam Payne — they all have steady girlfriends — so that leaves Harry Styles and Niall.

Since Ed referred to Harry as his "anchor" only a few months ago, it seems like their relationship has always been pretty stable. That definitely makes the Niall rumors more likely!

Who do you think Ed was talking about in the interview? Was he referring to Niall in "Don't"? Tell us your theories in the comments!
