The 90’s were a wild time. The outfits, the relationships, and the breakups all had more than enough drama to suffice. Then, waltzed in possibly one of the most iconic couples of the decade: Victoria Adams and David Beckham. Almost twenty years later, history is repeating itself with another soon-to-be iconic duo: Perrie Edwards and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Could Palex be the next British super-couple we deserve? Let's look at the evidence.
Perrie and Victoria both sang in girl bands.
The Spice Girls were a British pop band whose hits like “Wannabe” still bang to this day. Each girl was a different kind of Spice, with her own unique personality. Victoria was called Posh Spice, which meant she was a little glamorous, very girly, and had an upper-class accent. Besides producing great music, the Spice Girls also helped coin the term “girl power” and loved spreading its message to women across the world! Sounds an awful lot like Perrie's band Little Mix! Their song “Wings” is all about embracing who you are.
Since Little Mix is the next big British girl band, it's natural to be compared to the Spice Girls. Perrie, herself, once gave the ladies of Little Mix hilarious Spice Girl-inspired nicknames. She's Boho Mix, Jade Thirwall is Cutie Mix, Jesy Nelson is Swagger Mix, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock is Fiery Mix! Victoria and Perrie climbed their way to fame with the help of their BFFs. But every happily ever after has a few bumps in the road.
Both ladies dated famous teen idols.
Before there was Becks, Victoria dated Corey Haim. At the time, he was a major actor starring in the top teen movies. It was a classic Hollywood match. But, the two ended up breaking up mutually.
That’s kind of the opposite of what happened with international pop star Zayn Malik and his ex-fiancée, Perrie. In 2015, after a whirlwind romance during Zayn’s tenure as a singer in One Direction, he left the band, straight up dumped Perrie, and started dating model Gigi Hadid. It’s the stuff Spice Girls’ song “Who Do You Think You Are” is made of. I mean, with lyrics like “You're swelling out in the wrong direction. You've got the bug, superstar you've been bitten,” it’s almost like they predicted the end of Zerrie.
Not to worry! Both women found love again.
Two years after her breakup, Victoria met David Beckham. The British footballer was making waves for his moves on and off the field. They went around making iconic moments wherever they went. Their affinity for fashion, matching outfits, and fun hairstyles made them a must-see on the red carpet. The media was quickly dubbing them Posh and Becks and watching their every move. But the spotlight looks amazing on them.
After her awful breakup (reportedly over text message), Perrie Edwards found a new love and kept it a secret for a good while! She didn’t make it Instagram official until February of 2017!
Her new boo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is an up-and-coming British soccer player. Since they made their relationship public, the couple has been stealing everyone else’s hearts! Perrie posts adorable pictures with even cuter captions.
And the pair even spent Christmas 2017 together! It's clear that their love is the real deal, but is it enough to stack up to Posh and Becks'?
Even David Beckham and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have things in common.
It’s not just the ladies who have similarities. The guys are both super successful soccer players. Since soccer (AKA football, in England) is so major overseas, it's a pretty huge thing when one of the most famous players starts dating an international pop star. That's especially true when the player is as accomplished as David.
During his 20-year career, David Beckham won 19 major trophies, played for six different teams, and was entered into the English Football Hall of Fame. So, while the 24-year-old Alex doesn’t have the years to accomplish all that, he’s got an early start! He debuted for the English team Arsenal at only 18-years-old and quickly became the youngest goalscorer in the entire UEFA Champions League (that’s basically the biggest cup in Europe). He’s well on his way to becoming just as successful as Beckham. Not to mention, his relationship with Perrie will kick-start his stardom.
The couples both serve LOOKS when they go out.
Throughout the early days of their relationship, David and Victoria were known for their adorable coordinating outfits. With a fashion maven like Posh as one-half of the couple, they, of course, wear some incredible things. Same goes for Perrie and Alex, who look amazing in all their photos.
If coordinating looks weren’t enough to drive you crazy, they’ve also coordinated Instagram posts! Alex and Perrie both posted the same photo with a little heart as the caption. It’s basically the 2017 version of Posh and Beck showing up in head-to-toe leather.

In 2003, Victoria and David showed up to the MTV Movie Awards wearing all white outfits. It's a landmark moment for couples' fashion, right up there with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's all-denim ensembles.

What’s next for Perrie and Alex?
Well, if history repeats itself, the couple is sure to have a happy life. After getting married in 1999, Posh and Becks made incredible careers for themselves. Victoria launched a ridiculously successful designer clothing line after going solo. David said goodbye to soccer after twenty fantastic years and is now a philanthropist and model. Plus, they are parents to four kids and basically have the cutest family ever. While we’re confident that Little Mix is in for long and accomplished career (no hiatuses here!), it’ll be so fun to see Perrie make it on her own eventually. Hopefully, there's "No More Sad Songs" and this couple makes it last, like the Beckhams! Perrie totally deserves it.
