Hi there J-14ers!
I pretty much know within a few notes of hearing a band's song how I'm going to feel about them -- and it was love at first listen years ago when I heard Rooney. So I was stoked when I found out that the band (who had opened for the Jonas Brothers in 2008) was headlining their own tour for their new album, Eureka.
On top of that... I was totally bummed when another of my fave bands, Panic At the Disco, had lost two members last summer (I'll admit, I still blast their last album Pretty. Odd. all the time on my iPod!), but was thrilled that Ryan Ross and Jon Walker had started The Young Veins.
So when I heard that The Young Veins was opening for Rooney on this tour, it literally was a match made in rock band heaven for me... and after seeing the show last night, boy was it!
The Young Veins definitely have taken on a unique sound of their own... a throwback vintage mellow rock sound tinged with the tones that made Panic's music so popular. Ryan and Jon both take turns at the mic singing the laid-back songs off their debut Take a Vacation!, including the catchy single "Change" (which you can download at theyoungveins.com).
Rooney then kicked off their feel good power pop-rock set with one of my all-time favorite songs, "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?" off of Calling the World before delving into music off of Eureka... including the song that's so good it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it, "Holdin' On."
The most impressive thing about the flawless set? Frontman Robert Schwartzman (who you might even remember from The Princess Diaries movie!) had just flown to Los Angeles for a day to work with Joe Jonas on some music (can't wait to hear that pairing!) before hopping back on the plane to headline the New York show. Not only was his performance perfect, but (at the risk of sounding totally superficial) his new haircut made him look like Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford meets Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder... definite J-14 hot guy alert! ;)
What do you think of Rooney and The Young Veins?
Can't wait to hear from you!
