Selena Gomez is extremely respectful of her Disney Channel past, but even the Wizards of Waverly Place actress says that her time on the network one serious negative impact on her life. After the show was over, she lost all sense of self. In fact, she says that she had to "learn to be myself" — and that's part of the reason that she fired her mom and stepfather, Mandy Teefey and Brian Teefey as managers.
Turns out, there was no major behind-the-scenes drama. She only felt like she had to figure out her life without her parents' influence.
“I was like, ‘Mom, I gotta figure it out on my own.' It was the kid-going-to-college moment in my mind," she told W.
Even though it's good to hear that Selena never had a blowout fight with her parents, it's a little heartbreaking that her time on Disney forced her to have such an identity crisis. However, it seems like she has a full sense of herself now, so it all worked out for the better!
