All Reasons Why Selena Gomez Won't Be In '13 Reasons Why' Season 2

She may call it a passion project but we know it as one of the most talked about shows in our culture today.

Selena Gomez spearheaded the hit series 13 Reasons Why years ago after she had read Jay Asher’s book Thirteen Reasons Why. Selena literally helped the book come alive and for that, viewers are super grateful. Because it has become so popular, Netflix’s most popular show ever to be exact, 13 Reasons Why was picked up for a second season.

Ever since that happened rumors have been rumbling about whether or not Selena herself will make a guest appearance or a short cameo. Unfortunately, we don’t think that’s going to happen. While she was originally set to play the main character Hannah Baker years ago, she turned down the gig.

If she turned it down once, she’ll probably do the same if the offer to act in the series landed back in her lap. But, her handing over the role to Katherine Langford isn’t the only reason we think it’s highly unlikely that she’ll keep herself behind the camera.

Selena Is Working on New Music

Sel just released her new single “Bad Liar” just weeks after dropping her track “It Ain’t Me.” Clearly, she’s been working hard and there’s probably an album in the future. Fans know what happens after an album, usually a tour follows. If that happens, Sel will be super busy traveling around the country performing and meeting fans. The last thing she will have time to do is act in the second season of 13 Reasons Why.

13 Reasons Why Star Amy Hargreaves Confirmed That Selena Won’t Be in It

As if we didn’t need more proof, Amy revealed that she doesn’t think Selena would take on any acting role because then the show would become more about her as a big celebrity than it would be about the messages that the directors, writers, and producers are trying to get across.

Amy said, “It would become so much more about Selena Gomez and not about the story. It would kinda distract from the main story. So I can’t imagine that she would pop up for a cameo, but who knows? You never know.”

Selena Has A lot Going on Her in Her Personal Life

Sel and The Weeknd are super serious right now. They have taken their relationship into the public eye and we’re literally #RELATIONSHIPGOALS at the 2017 MET Gala. Not only that but she’s been traveling with him while he’s on tour, he’s met her family and they are always on dinner dates. For the first time in a long time, she’s in a stable relationship without horrific headlines plastered across the media and the pair probably want to keep it this way. If she started acting in the second season of 13 Reasons Why it may put a strain on their relationship!

Selena Is Frightened By the Following of the Book

The “Bad Liar” singer turned down the role in the first place because there was something about the following that it had that scared her. She said, “A book is frightening for me because I know the cult following it has, which is the reason why I didn’t want to be in it. Originally, my mom and I found the project because I wanted it to be a transition piece.”

Now that the series has blown up, it has even more of a following and more expectations for the second season. Now, the pressure is on even more than it was before.

Selena Wants to Let the Stars of Show Be the Stars

The cast of 13 Reasons Why have had acting jobs in the past but nothing as popular as this. Katherine is a total newcomer and she’s really getting attention because of this. We have a feeling that Selena wants to let them shine on screen. If she was in the second season, their roles and their acting may not make as many headlines. Not only will her staying out of the show to help the message of the story but it will help these actors further their own careers.

Selena Is Already Doing So Much Behind-the-Scenes

13 Reasons Why has seemingly become Selena’s escape from everything else she is working on. She works hard behind-the-scenes and is really involved in the lives of the cast. This is another reason why we probably won’t see her in season 2. She already has so much going on with the series that adding another thing to her plate might just be too much.

Unfortunately, Selena probably won’t be a series regular or even a series guest star. It’s sad but it may just be for the best. This gal is already giving the people what they want – new music, a hot relationship that we can drool over and producing the second season of the greatest show literally ever, 13 Reasons Why.
