When it comes to writing songs, Taylor Swift doesn’t care what her exes think!

When releasing her Red (Taylor’s Version) album in November 2021, the songstress appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Since she’s reliving past experiences with the record, the show’s host Seth Meyers asked: “I wonder if there are people who might think that they were the one you were singing about, if it’s easier or far, far worse for them 10 years later.”

“I haven’t thought about their experience, to be honest,” Taylor hit back, with Seth noting that’s the “biggest burn.”

Over the years, who Taylor’s songs are about has been a huge topic of conversation among the fandom, especially since she sprinkles Easter eggs throughout each track. But despite her hints, the musician has never confirmed who the tracks were about.

“You’re going to have people who are going to say, ‘Oh, you know, like, she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends.’ And I think frankly that’s a very sexist angle to take,” Taylor said during a 2014 interview. “I have a really strict personal policy that I never name names. And so anybody saying that a song is about a specific person is purely speculating.”

Although she has nine albums under her belt, Taylor’s fans have resonated deeply with Red — which she called her one “true breakup album” during an interview with Rolling Stone in October 2020.

“Musically and lyrically, Red resembled a heartbroken person. It was all over the place, a fractured mosaic of feelings that somehow all fit together in the end,” she wrote on Instagram in June 2021. “Happy, free, confused, lonely, devastated, euphoric, wild and tortured by memories past. Like trying on pieces of a new life, I went into the studio and experimented with different sounds and collaborators. And I’m not sure if it was pouring my thoughts into this album, hearing thousands of your voices sing the lyrics back to me in passionate solidarity, or if it was simply time, but something was healed along the way.”

The Swifties have taken that record — since its original October 2012 release — and have broken it down, speculating that some of the more painful tracks, like “All Too Well,” are about her short-lived romance with Jake Gyllenhaal. Taylor, of course, has never confirmed this.

Aside from her exes, it has been rumored that the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer has also written songs about her past feud with Kanye West. Again, she’s never publicly acknowledged who any of her songs are about, but the fans will continue to speculate!
