With One Direction on what seems like an almost permanent hiatus, Simon Cowell is speaking out about the former boy band and whether or not he sees them reuniting. Directioners may not like the answer, though. Simon admits that the three boys, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne could actually form a group without Harry Styles and we’re shook over it. I mean, there’s no way that could happen. Well, it could, but there’s no way they would be as successful. It would be like eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly. Something just wouldn’t be right.
In light of the horror that Simon has just cast upon the fandom, in the end, he agreed that leaving Harry out of a reunion just wouldn’t be right. THANK YOU. Speaking to The Sun, Simon said, “You know, it’s fun being out there on your own but what I hope is going to happen is that they remember now how much fun it was being in a group. I always believe that you don’t make rules, you break the rules. So there’s nothing to stop them, if they want to, getting together for a tour, for an album. I made it absolutely clear, obviously, ‘We’re in’.”
Aww! Clearly, Simon has a soft spot for the boys. Simon continued on about how Zayn Malik would be welcomed with open arms at the chance of a reunion. And of course, he insisted that the boys “could” get back together without Harry because he has the potential to now become a major movie star after his role in Dunkirk but “it wouldn’t be the same.” You’re damn right it wouldn’t be the same, Simon.
All jokes aside, he is right about one thing. The boys are having major success on their own and that really freaking fantastic for them. But, we’re hoping that all of the fun times that they had in the group at some point come back to them and outweigh all of the fun they are having apart from the group. One Direction was iconic, they were legendary. They broke records and they keep breaking records. Niall and Louis have both touched on the fact that they wouldn’t reunite unless everyone was on board – so that’s good to hear.
Here’s to hoping they remember the good times sooner rather than later. Oh yeah, and here’s to hoping Simon is utterly, completely and totally wrong about Harry leaving the 1D family forever.
