Zayn Malik thanked One Direction during his acceptance speech for Outstanding Contribution to Music at the Asian Awards 2015. It's the first time we've seen him publicly speak out since leaving the group.
The Bradford Bad Boy name-checked his mentor, calling Naughty Boy one of his best friends after he handed him the award on stage. But then, he gave credit to the group of guys he got his start with.
"I'm not really a guy of many words normally, I don't really normally do the speeches. I'm massively honored to be here tonight. It's incredibly humbling to accept an award on the same stage as some people I've looked up to throughout my entire life. Being gifted this award by one of my best friends, Naughty Boy, is also amazing," he said.

"I'd also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys that I've ever met. Whilst being in the band and doing all the amazing things that I did, some of the things that we did will stay with me for the rest of my life and I thank you for that. And yeah, here's to the future."
It's seriously sweet that he's paying homage to the guys and his experience with the band, though you can definitely tell that he's excited about the other projects he has on the horizon. But considering he still hasn't changed his Twitter username, it seems like he'll always consider himself a part of the 1D family.
