'PLL: Original Sin': Will There Be Season 2? Date, Details

After the first few episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin dropped in July 2022, fans immediately started demanding a season 2 to follow up the PLL reboot. Keep reading to find out if the HBO Max series is confirmed for a season 2!

Will There Be a PLL: Original Sin Season 2?

HBO Max confirmed PLL: Original Sin is set for a second season on September 8, 2022. A few months later, it was confirmed that the second season will be titled Pretty Little Liars: Summer School.

“We are so proud of the incredible response both critically and from fans that Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has received,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max. “Viewers have embraced our new generation of Liars, and Roberto and Lindsay’s brilliantly dark, horror-fueled take on this iconic franchise. Along with Alloy and Warner Bros. Television, we are thrilled to continue the Pretty Little Liars legacy.”

Immediately, fans and the cast of the show took to Twitter to exclaim their excitement. “We’ve got more lying up our sleeves…#PLLOriginalSin2 is coming soon to @HBOMax,” wrote Jordan Gonzalez ,who plays Ash.

What Has the Cast and Crew Said of Season 2?

Both the cast and creators of PLL: Original Sin have expressed enthusiasm for the second season. Co-showrunner Lindsay Calhoon Bring told Collider that the creators “do have ideas for moving forward, and we have some pretty fun and exciting story ideas and places for the characters to go after this.”

Bailee, who plays Imogen, told Bustle that she definitely sees a path forward for season 2. “The way our first season closes out sets it up perfectly for that [next ‘A’] text message … It sets it up perfectly for the next ride because you know it won’t be the same.”

Co-showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to Variety that the showrunners are currently “talking about” and “brainstorming” ideas for season 2, especially considering Archie’s survival at the first season’s end.

“We are beyond excited to continue telling stories with our amazing group of little liars — exploring their friendships, their romances, their secrets, and their status as scream queens supreme!,” said Roberto and Lindsay in a statement following season 2 news.

They continued, “Eternal thanks to the fans who have embraced this new, horror-version of Pretty Little Liars — which we’ll be continuing, of course — as well as our partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, and Alloy Entertainment. As Tabby would say, ‘There’s a sequel in the offing!’”

‘Pretty Little Liars: Summer School’

In an October 2022 Instagram post, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa left fans’ minds racing by implying that a title change is in order.

“Season Two of #prettylittleliarsoriginalsin is HAPPENING!!!” he captioned the photo. “But is it #pllORIGINALSIN again this year…or something else?”

A few days later, he announced via Instagram that season 2’s title is Pretty Little Liars: Summer School!

“Happy Halloween! It may still be October, but it’s not too early to start thinking about summer vacation,” Roberto shared on his Instagram, along with a photo of a student and the title written on the chalkboard. “Or in the case of Millwood High’s #prettylittleliars … “

Same Cast

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TV Line in August 2022 that he had “some preliminary ideas” for a second season, and that it would “definitely follow the same girls.”

“We certainly have a lot of places for these characters to go, new mysteries to tell and hopefully new ways to scare people,” added co-creator Title Change?. “We’d continue to pick up on themes of young womanhood that I think are so important.”

Female Killer

“Our villain is a female figure of horror, which is something we really wanted to explore in our female-centered horror show,” Roberto told Cosmopolitan in March 2024. “We also wanted our villain to feel quite apocalyptic and terrifying. And because most of our season is set during summer—besides taking inspiration from from our favorite slashers—we wanted it to feel a little more apocalyptic, like something like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or even Midsommar.”

New Characters

Roberto revealed that Noah Alexander Gerry is introduced as Tabby’s love interest named Christian this season, and Ava Capri will be joining season 2 as a character named Jen.

“One of the things we’re so excited about is introducing new characters and new love interests,” Roberto told Cosmo. “Ava Capri is is joining us as Jen and we discover that Jen and Noa have known each other in the past. When they meet up, we can tell that there’s a lot of unspoken and unresolved affection. They immediately spark up a friendship and it very clearly quickly becomes obvious that there are deeper feelings there. And that’s all I’ll say about Jen and Noa. It’s fun though.”
