His real name is Anton Zaslavski.

He got his stage name in middle school, when he used to sit next to someone who was also named Anton. To avoid confusion, they started calling each other by the first letter of their last names ("zed" is "z" in German).

He later added the extra "d" to make his name more distinctive.
