The Voice paid tribute to the late Christina Grimmie in the most touching way last night. The singer, who got her start on YouTube before touring with Selena Gomez and competing on The Voice, was fatally shot by a man while meeting fans after a show in Orlando last June.
Adam Levine, who served as Christina's coach during her time on the show, took a moment to speak directly to the Grimmie family in the audience.
“God, I loved her so much. I am talking to you guys specifically, I’m talking to everybody. I miss her,” the singer said to Christina's family before Team Adam's tribute performance. "It is unfair she is not here. We are going to sing a little song. I am going to be singing every word to her in her honor. Thank you for being here. Christina, we love you."
Maroon 5 singer joined contestants Mark Isaiah, Lilli Passero and Jesse Larson for a beautiful rendition of "Hey Jude" by The Beatles in Christina's honor.
After Christina's passing, Adam reached out to the family to offer financial support.
"I found out this morning that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away," Christina's brother Marcus wrote on Facebook.
Also during the show, host Carson Daly introduced the launch of the Christina Grimmie Foundation.
"As you know, family is very, very important to us here at The Voice and last year we tragically lost one of our own, the incredibly talented and beautiful Christina Grimmie," Carson said. "Tonight, in memory of our good friend and along with Christina's family, we're honored to help announce the creation of the Christina Grimmie Foundation, benefiting those impacted by gun violence and families just like her own affected by breast cancer."
He added to Christina's family, "Thank you for letting us be a part of this very important moment. And Christina, we feel your spirit here at The Voice every single day and we love and miss you dearly."
