Being able to reach thousands, if not millions of people in an instant is one of the many ways celebrities use social media to their advantage. That and to spread awareness to a cause near and dear to their hearts along with glimpses into their daily happenings. Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman is someone who has never shied away from bringing issues to the forefront, and over the weekend she made a plea with fans – to help but an end to bullying this month given that it’s Anti-Bullying month.
On Instagram, Aly shared an emotional video in which she discussed all the negativity that often comes with social media. She encouraged not just her fans, but everyone out there to not only be kind, but to respect everyone’s opinions. Why? Well, because we’ve all got one; and we can’t expect people to always agree with us. The post was captioned, "Just because…. #supporteachother #Antibullyingmonth #spreadlove."
Aly also reminded fans to be conscious of how others are feeling. She said, “I wanna remind you guys that every single person in the world is going through something. You might not think they are or you might not realize it. Always remember that every person is struggling with something.” Very wise words for anyone to always keep in mind.
It’s a great message to send out not just to her fans, but to anyone who comes across the clips. In a time where there is so much constant negativity out there, Aly is completely right in encouraging everyone to lift one another up, and she of course deserves some major props for using her platform in such an inspiring way. It would be easy to put certain issues like these on the back-burner, but that’s obviously not the way the athlete does anything. There’s no better time than the present to speak out, and spread positivity.
