Ariana Grande has taken to Instagram to honor her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. The 25-year-old singer shared a video she took of the rapper while they were out to dinner one night. He’s telling her a story she loves to hear that, as she says in the clip, makes her happy. Mac says he’ll tell her the story as many times as she wants. In the caption, she wrote about how much her friendship with Mac will always mean to her and how she desperately hoped he would be able to overcome his struggles with addiction.

“i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest,” she wrote.

Mac sadly passed away last week at the age of 26 from a suspected overdose. Although he and Ariana were no longer together – and she’s now engaged to Pete Davidson – they clearly still cared about each other, stemming from the fact that they were good friends before they dated for two years

“I was in love with somebody. We were together for two years. We worked through good times, bad times, stress, and everything else. And then it came to an end and we both moved on. And it’s that simple,” Mac said to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “It’s just a part of something that’s going to continue to help make me who I am. It’s all positive energy. I am happy for her in moving forward with her life, just as I’m sure she is with me.”

And Ari really did love Mac too, despite the fact that their relationship didn’t last. Back in 2017 when they were still together, she spoke about how timing was really everything when it came to their love story.

“I’ve never looked at love as something that I need to complete me. I would like to be complete on my own first and fall in love with somebody who is also complete. You can still celebrate and be totally obsessed with each other, but I want to feel a hundred percent myself so that I can love that person better,” she said to Cosmopolitan. “I met him when I was 19. We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other’s talent. We weren’t ready at all, though, to be together. It’s just timing.”

This is the second time the “No Tears Left to Cry” songstress has publicly addressed Mac’s death. She posted a black and white photo she took of him on Instagram that seems to truly capture the essence of their relationship.

Our thoughts remain with Ariana and all of Mac’s friends, family, and fans.
