Uncover Shocking 'The Kissing Booth' Behind-The-Scenes Secrets

Ever since the first movie premiered back in May 2018, fans have been seriously obsessed with The Kissing Booth movies. Viewers have been kept on the edge of their seat by the romantic love story between Elle Evans and Noah Flynn, and frankly, no one can get enough of it! Now, Netflix — which premiered the sequel The Kissing Booth 2 in 2020 — aired the franchise’s third and final movie in August 2021.

For those who missed it, the first two movies starred Joey King, Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi and more. The first one followed high school student named Elle, who found herself face-to-face with her long-term crush — Noah — while running a kissing booth at the spring carnival. But things got a little complicated when Noah’s younger brother, Lee (who was also Elle’s best friend) did not approve of their relationship. In the end, he learned to accept their love and they lived happily ever after!

During the second movie, Elle and Noah’s relationship was put to the test when he went off to college. When both of them started to grow close to new people, it lead to a lot of jealousy and fighting. But in the end, true love won. Yes, Elle and Noah stayed together, but the film still ended with a MAJOR cliffhanger that made fans waiting on the edge of their seat for what would go down in the third movie. Which college did Elle ultimately choose?

“We meet Elle with quite the dilemma at the end of The Kissing Booth 2. With The Kissing Booth 3, we pick back up with that dilemma, and it presents some pretty serious challenges throughout the third movie,” Joey said during an interview with Digital Spy from October 2020. “All the while, though, even though Elle is going through some very tough decisions, we are going to have even more fun with these characters than we did in the second one.”

That was proven true in The Kissing Booth 3 when Elle and Noah completed their ultimate Beach Bucket List throughout the flick.

“I have to say one of the [scenes] we worked the hardest for, and we had so much fun doing was the flash mob,” Joey told J-14 exclusively about the final film. “I can’t believe we pulled that off. It was amazing.”

Jacob Elordi Used Joey King to Make Him Emotional

It’s no secret that costars Jacob and Joey dated back in the day, but when it came to getting emotional for the second film, he used old photos of them! Yep, at the end of the movie, Netflix played a reel of hilarious bloopers from the movie, and in one of them, Jacob held up his phone. Maisie Richardson-Sellers Developed Chloe’s Backstory

In the second film, fans were introduced to a brand new character named Chloe. And get this — the actress who portrayed her — Maisie Richardson-Sellers — even came up with a pretty epic back story for the character.
“I started [by] creating a real human — a well-rounded person who happens to have traveled the world. Who happens to live in Zimbabwe and speaks Italian and has been exposed to so many different cultures. Therefore, she finds it easy to assimilate into different worlds. How you see her in the film is not how she would be when she’s back in Zimbabwe, with her family there. She’s multifaceted,” she told Elle.

Lee Is Joey King’s Favorite Flynn Brother

The actress told Seventeen that she prefers Lee over Noah!

“OMG, you can’t do this to me! They’re both going to kill me. Ok, I’m going to say the better Flynn brother is probably Lee because Elle and Lee have been friends since birth and Lee has always, always been there for her. Noah is amazing, too. He’s more of a new thing because now he’s just realizing how awesome Elle is, when Lee already knew all along how awesome she was,” she dished.

Joey King Didn’t Audition

“I remember when I read the script for The Kissing Booth I called my reps and said, ‘When can I audition?’ They were like ‘Oh, the part’s been offered to you’, and I was like ‘No way’. The fact that I was believed in from the start just set a tone where I felt confident. I was also able to believe in myself because the material was so good, and the company I was keeping was so wonderful,” the actress said, according to PopBuzz.

Taylor Zakhar Perez Learned the Guitar

Before he got the role of Marco, actor Taylor Zakhar Perez didn’t know how to play the guitar.

“This role was for a guy who played guitar, and I have never played guitar in my life. I grew up playing piano,” he told Glamour.

But as fans know, the star learned how to play pretty quickly, because he totally killed it in the movie!

Filming the Sequel Was Hard

According to Joey, she told Cosmopolitan that it wasn’t easy working on the sequel with her ex-boyfriend, Jacob.

“No one’s thinking to themselves, ‘That was easy,’ because it wasn’t. I’m sure people will analyze every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them. But at the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again… There’s so much I want to say. What’s the most, um, correct way to go about this? Elle Evans needs her Noah Flynn, and whatever that means for my personal life, I’ll do anything to make sure the story of my character who I care about so much is complete,” she said.

Joey King’s Favorite Set Moments

“I always laughed on set,” she told Glamour Mexico in July 2021. “One memory that comes to mind was learning all the dance scenes with Joel for the first movie. We were so exhausted and delirious that we decided to do all of our dance choreography like we were made of jelly. Our limbs were spinning all over the place, and it was the most ridiculous but fun thing ever. One of my all-time favorite memories.”
