If there’s one thing Bella Thorne is really good at, it’s being controversial on social media. The Famous In Love star is unapologetically herself, which at times, will turn a head or two. But, she is aware what she’s doing. She sees the comments on social media, she sees the negativity that comes her way, and she tries to deal with the hate that comes with being in the spotlight. However, Bella feels like she can’t really say anything lately without being totally slammed. PEOPLE magazine caught up with her at the Sundance Film Festival where she said, “In this day and age you cannot even speak without getting ridiculed and just blasted all over the Internet.”
Bella’s most recent backlash on social media came after she posted what some say was an incredibly insensitive tweet. She tweeted about missing her boyfriend Mod Sun’s show because a highway was shut down. Bella was V upset about this. But, the highway was shut down because of the dangerous mudslide that was running through it. The eruption of chaos on Twitter ensued by Bella’s fans and fellow actor, Rob Lowe. He took a screenshot of her original tweet and posted it to his own Instagram writing, “This attitude is why people hate celebrities/Hollywood. Bella, I’m sorry you were inconvenienced. We will try to move out our dead quicker.” This and thousands of other tweets were probably what prompted her to check the news. She clarified her thoughts after realizing that she had made a huge mistake with her words.
Bella wrote, “F–k just caught up on some news had no idea why the 101 was shut down…get home to your family safe ❤️.”
It’s unclear if Bella is talking about this particular Twitter flub or putting all the hate she has gotten under one umbrella, but it seems like she just has to put up with it all at this point. It’s a bit upsetting when you think about it. Just because Bella is in the spotlight, doesn’t mean she can’t make a mistake with her words on social media. She continued, “I mean, I guess there really is no dealing with it. It’s just there. All you can do is deal with it. It is what it is at this point. You really can’t win…Honestly, you can’t escape. Whether you want to look at the negativity or not. Negatively is mixed in with positivity. I’m afraid that like one tiny thing I send out or say or the way I say it, or the way I look in a photo [could be misinterpreted].”
On the other hand, there is one more side to all of this and it is what we mentioned previously. If Bella is so worried about getting hate from what she posts, then sometimes more thought should go into what is broadcast to her millions of followers. Being a former Shake It Up star, Bella does have young people looking at every move she makes. So, to be honest, it makes sense where some of the hate comes from. If Bella is looking for it all to go away, just a little bit of censoring would do the trick.
