Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham have had that whole are they or aren't they together thing going for a while. As in years. It's been tons of on-again, off-again back and forth, which is totally understandable since they're so young, with Chloe being 20 and Brooklyn 18 years old, plus they're super busy with their respective careers. But now, it seems like love is in the air for the former couple yet again.

Brooklyn is currently enjoying his first semester at college in New York City but that didn't stop him from taking to Instagram to let his girl know he misses her. "These nights are my favourite ❤️. Missing my girl," he wrote in the caption of the pic, where we see B is watching a movie alone and yes, he then went ahead and tagged Chloe. She commented back to her bae with a red heart and a rose.

So safe to say these two are back on, right? He publicly called her his girl to his 10 million-plus Instagram followers, so that seems pretty legit to us. How exactly did this love story come about? Well, allow us to take a trip down memory lane…

When did Chloe and Brooklyn first meet?

it all went down back in 2014 at a workout class. That's right, the lovebirds have been friendly for three years now and the two met in a SoulCycle class and that's where the sparks first flew, according to a source who spoke to People. "They cycle next to each other and are very cute. Always look to be cheering each other on with smiles. They also both seem very competitive, but in a fun way," the source shared. And it was in 2014 when the duo was first publicly spotted together at the Made In America music festival.

When did Chloe and Brooklyn start dating?

Since they first started hanging out and getting to know each other, there were always rumors the pair was more than friends, but in 2015, she Chloe told Marie Clarie she had no interest in having a boyfriend.

"I don't want to date older people, because I'm 18 and older people are more serious. Then I kind of realized, I'll go on dates, why not? And that's kind of how I am right now. I'm not looking for a while. At least until I'm, like, 23," Chloe had said. Well, Brooklyn is two years younger than her and it seems like he changed her mind since, in 2016, these two really heated up, each sharing cute pics on their Instagram accounts.

And it was finally in May of 2016 when the actress confirmed that she and Brooklyn were officially a couple on Watch What Happens Live.

"We’re in a relationship, it’s fine, it’s no biggie. I think the more I don’t make it mysterious the more people don’t care, so yes, we’re in a relationship," she said. They even walked their first red carpet together a few weeks later at the premiere of Chloe's movie, Neighbors 2.

"He's a sweetie. He's a good boy!" Chloe gushed about Brooklyn to ET on the red carpet. She then dished to The Talk that the couple has been on and off seeing each other for a few years like we all had suspected.

"We’ve been off and on together for a couple of years now and we just kind of made it official," she said. "We were always running from paparazzi … it [was] affecting our relationship … we were like, if we were more upfront about it … and just let them take our photo – they aren’t going to care."

Why did Chloe and Brooklyn break up?

As quickly as we all finally got proof Chloe and Brooklyn were an item, they seemed to fizzle out. By September 2016, sources had confirmed the pair had split. There was no clear reason for the split and even the fact that they were long distance didn't seem to play a factor since when they were together, Chloe spoke about how it was something that just worked for them.

"You know as well as I do that it feels like everything in this industry is a long-distance relationship. Seeing my brothers is a long-distance relationship — every day when I’m not in L.A., I’m texting them and calling them and making myself a part of their lives. I’m reminding them that I may be gone for six months but I’m here, and I care, and I’m a part of the family, and I love them. So getting into a relationship with someone who also has lived some of their life between cities, from L.A. to New York to London, is easier. We both understand that there will be times when we can’t speak because we are too busy. Some of it is just based on trust. If you feel that you can trust each other and go eight hours without talking, then you have something that can withstand space and time," Chloe said.

When did Chloe and Brooklyn get back together?

They're pretty good about keeping things rather low-key but in March of 2016, there was a sign of hope they could be finding their way back to each other, since Brooklyn shared a cryptic photo on Instagram that had everyone believing it was Chloe. Then, a few months later in August, they were reportedly spotted hanging out yet again at a party right before Brooklyn left for college. Although there was a minute everyone thought Brooklyn was dating Madison Beer, since the longtime friends were spotted getting cozy shopping together and she said they had crushes on each other, the "Dead" singer then said she could never do long-distance so after those few weeks, it seemed to fizzle out. And that's when Chloe came back into B's heart and it looks like she's there to stay. The photographer and the actress keep finding their way back to each other over and over again so perhaps they are simply meant to be after all.
