Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinheart make up the romantic duo Bughead that everyone loves to watch on Riverdale, and it appears Cole is v pleased with the way viewers are perceiving the relationship between Jughead and Betty. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about what it was like filming those super romantic scenes – given the fact that he did nothing of the sort during his Disney Channel days.
"Lili and I are professionals, and I was excited. So it was great," Cole revealed.
Not only are fans having a great reaction to the duo, but Cole is also really pumped to see how that storyline evolves.
"[The relationship] is really well received," Cole spilled. "I think the key is that it feels honest and real and both of those kids are going through an absolute whirlwind, in terms of the things that they've seen and done over the last season. So I think – I can hope that they just sort of work through whatever's going to be thrown at them in a way that feels genuine and communicative – and kind of give that kind of relationship to kids who are watching, would be awesome."
In addition to seeing Jughead and Betty's relationship evolve in Season 2, Cole also expects the show to get a little more intense overall.
"I think the whole show is going to be getting darker and stranger, which is awesome because it means we’re going to be leaning into a lot of those qualities that a lot of people ended up loving in the first couple of episodes — this heavy cinematography, this overbearing coloration, this really dark content that’s kind of over-the-top and campy, but it’s taken very seriously," Cole said. "It should be fun."
As for Lili, she's all about the Jughead and Betty love saga as well. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.
Fans totally flipped when she tweeted in reference to the season finale, "I wonder how Betty would feel in a leather jacket."
You see, in the finale, the serpents (AKA the crew from the not-so-nice side of town) come to Jughead's house to offer their support, letting him know they always have his back – considering the fact that his father in is jail and didn't rat any of them out for any crimes they committed. They bring Jughead his father's leather jacket as a peace offering if you will, and Betty watches him put it on.
Betty, being a total good girl at heart, was visibly upset at the thought of Jughead getting roped into this dangerous crew. She just wants him to not give into this dark side and go down the wrong path. Oh, and did we mention that this all went down right after they exchanged their first "I love you's." OUR HEARTS.
So basically, Lili's tweet about Betty wearing the jacket sent fans into a total frenzy.
Oh, how we cannot wait to see how this relationship plays out in Season 2!
