Former Disney actress Demi Lovato just opened up about what it was really like to grow up alongside the other Disney stars, including the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and the cast of High School Musical, and she admitted that it “was confusing and dramatic.”
For those who forgot, the OG Disney Channel squad were all super popular on the network at the same time. They starred in a bunch of fan favorite TV shows and movies, slayed the charts with their music and were pretty much all anyone talked about back in 2008.
Because of that, they quickly grew super close, and everyone became obsessed with their friendship! These stars were constantly hanging out, sharing the cutest pictures together and gushing over each other in interviews back in the day, and get this — a bunch of them even dated each other! But according to the 27-year-old, things weren’t as picture perfect as they seemed.
“Everybody was kind of growing up together. It was this really small group of kids and we really couldn’t relate to a lot of people, so we kind of stuck together,” the Camp Rock alum recalled in a new interview. “We called it ‘Disney High’ because when there’s only a select few of you that can relate to one another, you start dating each other, you become friends with one another, you fall out with one another and then you break up with one another… It’s just confusing and dramatic, and that’s ‘Disney High’ for you.”
As fans know, the singer’s admission comes just months after she revealed that the only person from the group that she’s still close with is Miley.
“I talk to Miley. She’s awesome, and I love her to death and always will, always have,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “But I think she’s kind of the only one from that era that I still stay in touch with.”
The “Anybody” songstress also got real about her relationship with Selena.
“When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her,” she added. “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”
