Casey Cott just shook the Riverdale fandom to the core – and tbh, we are all still recovering. The 26-year-old actor, who plays Kevin Keller in the series, claimed that his co-star KJ Apa‘s character, Archie Andrew, dies in Season 3. But don’t worry – he was totally kidding. It all started when KJ started explaining what fans can expect from the upcoming episodes during a recent interview at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday.
“We start off – Archie’s in court, and we’re going to see if he goes to jail,” the 21-year-old star said to ET Online. “But I can’t tell you if he goes or not.”
Casey chimed in with a smirk, “and then he dies!”
While Archie is most definitely going to stay alive – because that would just be cruel – there will definitely be some dark, dramatic, and hot and heavy moments ahead.
“They’re going to absolutely just freak out, man,” KJ said. “It’s going to be gnarly.”
Believe it or not, this was not the first time there was a rumor a main cast member was going to get killed off in the show. Previously, there was a ridiculous rumor that Betty Cooper was getting killed off in Season 1. The rumor originated from the site “Crazy Days and Nights,” a space where users leave anonymous tips or “blind items” about celeb gossip.
Cole Sprouse himself even joked that his character Jughead was going to die. In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 26-year-old actor just outright said, “I die.” The world stopped for a moment – before everyone realized he was totally just messing around.
Clearly, Betty and Jughead are still kicking. And it’s safe to say Archie will be OK in Season 3 too. Riverdale without the Core 4 would just be wrong on so many levels.
