Ed Sheeran may be an award-winning singer-songwriter, but he says that he doesn't trust award shows because they're rigged! In an interview with Daily Mirror, he claims that he once won an award just because Pharrell was missing.
"I won an award in the summer for a very big award show and I won it 'cos Pharrell didn't turn up. They said, 'Well, we were going to give it to him, but he's not turned up so you can have it.' I know award shows are rigged."
We have to wonder if he's talking about the Teen Choice Awards, where he won Choice Single Male Artist for "Sing" — and Pharrell was also up for his song, "Happy."
But Ed says this wasn't his only encounter with weird award show protocol. He claims the MOBO Awards once told him that he won two awards, but then gave them to someone else because he was busy touring. Ouch!
We're not sure what to make of these accusations. While we don't think Ed was lying, maybe it can all be chalked up to some miscommunication?
What do you think about his accusations? Do you think Ed only beat out Pharrell because he wasn't going to be there? Sound off in the comments!
