Are those wedding bells we hear? According to reports, Ed Sheeran married his longtime girlfriend and childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn in a secret ceremony that took place before Christmas.
That’s right, you guys! The Sun claims the singer hosted the ceremony at his country home in Suffolk after his plans to build an on-site wedding chapel on the property got turned down.
A source told the outlet, “Ed got married a few days before Christmas. It was very quiet — just Ed’s oldest school pals, limited family and the priest.” Aw, how sweet is that?
Although the event was small and only a tight-knit group of people were in attendance, fans of course want to know whether or not his good friend Taylor Swift was there. However, the source said that she wasn’t there at all, and TBH, we’re kind of shocked since they’ve always seemed like such great friends.
“There were only 40 people,” the insider added. “So no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them — just a tiny winter wedding.” Sorry, Tay!
Now, there’s no denying that the 28-year-old and his now-wife have been the subject of several rumors regarding the status of their relationship. In fact, this isn’t the first time people were under the impression they got married. The couple first sparked marriage rumors in February 2018, when the “Shape of You” crooner was spotted at the BRIT Awards wearing what appeared to be a wedding band.
Alas, that sighting was merely a false alarm, but considering how quickly people jumped to conclusions back then, it’s kind of shocking that no one learned of their Christmas nuptials until now.
“It’s amazing that he’s the biggest pop star in the world but he was just able to quietly slide off and wed,” the source added. “Neither of them were that fussed about making a big deal about it. Cherry just wanted to get it out of the way without any problems or intrusions.”
Don’t worry, though! The insider added that the source is planning to make their marriage a bigger deal come summer, which is when they’ll have a larger reception that all of their family and friends will be invited to — including the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer.
