The two have been together for over a year, and have managed to keep pretty much all aspects of their relationship out of the spotlight – except for now. The “Shape of You,” singer decided to break his silence about his romance with Cherry, and how the two were able to fall in love with one another thanks to the two year long hiatus he took from his career.
While speaking with Zane Lowe, the host of Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio station, Ed revealed, “this has been the first time I’ve actually had the time to fall in love properly.”
“So the catalyst of taking a year off was also the fact that my partner quit her job in New York—which she’s now got back in London, which is really cool—but we were just basically like, let’s quit our jobs and have a year of forming a tight bond. So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together,” he continued to explain.
It’s really great to hear Ed being so open about his relationship with Cherry. If fans think that the two have spent any time apart after the “Thinking Out Loud,” singer made his triumphant return to the music scene by releasing two singles…well, that’s not exactly the case.
“I’ve probably had three days apart from her in the last year…but we’re very, very strong. I’ve never been happier. I’ve never been more comfortable. I’ve never been more inspired. I feel like everything’s fallen into place, and it’s fallen into place because I’ve given it the time to fall into place,” he explained.
We can’t help but applaud the singer for being so honest about all aspects of his personal life, and sharing just what it took to make the current relationship he’s in so special to him.
