Season 2 Premiere

Originally, the second season was set to premiere in 2020, but was pushed back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Then, in June 2021, Zendaya shared what appeared to be a clip from the show alongside a caption that read, “See you soon.”

HBO announced the show would return with new episodes on January 9, 2022.

Zendaya’s Return

Yes! On July 11, 2019, the actress took to Twitter and announced that the show had been picked up for a second season. At the time, fans took this to mean that the actress would be reprising her role as Rue. Their theories were confirmed when the official Euphoria social media accounts posted snaps her from the first table read. Along with Zendaya, the pics also confirmed that Angus Cloud would return as Fez!

During an interview with Variety, the Shake It Up alum said she “was just so excited — just to go back home” to set before the coronavirus pandemic hit and filming came to a halt.

“I think all we ever wanted was for people to feel seen through our work,” she said about the show, and returning for a second season. “And so that’s all I want to continue to do, to show the human side of what addiction does to a person. Hopefully, I get to get back into my Chucks and do it again.”

While talking with the “Chicks In The Office” podcast, Sydney also dished on her return to the show. When talking to Allure, Hunter Schafer confirmed that she would be stepping back into Jules’ shoes for the second season! “There’s a bit of a projection of Jules onto me, Hunter,” she said. ““Sometimes I dress like her; sometimes I like to dress like her.”

As for the rest of the cast, it has yet to be confirmed if Jacob Elordi and Alexa Demie would be returning. Storm Reid hinted to Entertainment Weekly, that she would be coming back as Gia for the second season. “The questions that you may have specifically about the eighth episode will be answered in the first couple of episodes of Season 2,” she told the publication.

Filming Season 2

As of March 11, 2020, the cast has officially started filming the second season, according to photos from the first table read posted to the official Euphoria social media accounts! Unfortunately, due to the current coronavirus pandemic, production on the show has come to a halt. Although, during an interview with InStyle, Zendaya gave fans a major production update.

“There is a beautiful second season that has been written, but in order to do it the way we want to do it, we need to wait until it’s safer. There is an idea to do a couple of bridge episodes that can be shot safely but aren’t necessarily part of Season 2. So, hopefully, we will be able to do those in the coming months. I can’t wait,” she dished. In August 2020,  she took to Instagram Stories with a photo of her character’s iconic converse sneakers alongside the caption, “Hello old friends.”

A casting notice for the series posted in February 2021 revealed that the show would head back into production on April 5, 2021!

New Characters

Yes! According to Collider, Kelvin Harrison Jr. is set to join the Euphoria cast. He’s kept information about his character pretty much under wraps, but did tease that he’s “never seen a character like this, period.”

“I can almost argue that it has not been done. It’s interesting, it is definitely a character of the time, and that’s all I got. He’s interesting,” the actor told the hosts of Complex’s pop culture podcast, “Watch Less.”

The 25-year-old also praised the show’s writing saying, “The aesthetic and world-building they do in that show is so unique…So, I’m excited to step into that space and do my part.”

Although it has yet to be confirmed, a Euphoria update account on Twitter reported that an insider on Reddit said Bella Thorne, Brandon Flynn, Kim Petras and Rowan Blanchard are rumored to join the show’s second season.

Season 2’s Plot

It’s too soon to tell exactly what storylines the second season will bring, but Barbie did tease the possibility of an LGBTQ+ storyline for her character in the upcoming season. “I think Kat’s a little queer, but that might be my perspective,” she told the New York Times before revealing that she wants Kat to “make bad decisions,” throughout season two.

Hunter also spilled on possibly storylines for her character, which may include NYC and a career in fashion! “I know she has dreams, [many of] which she stated in the first episode. Which is just what I did in a way: escaping to New York, and working or interning in fashion,” the actress explained in an interview with V Magazine. “That was [part of the character] before I was even cast, so it was really freaky to see that written into the script. So, I feel like that’s definitely her path.”

But that’s not all! There’s a major plot twist coming for Cassie that fans won’t see coming, according to Sydney. “It’s something that I wasn’t even expecting,” the blond beauty told the “Chicks In The Office” podcast. “My mind just exploded.”

Zendaya’s Teaser

“It’s a difficult season, I’m kinda in the middle of it,” she told Teen Vogue in July 2021. “But, you know, the show was intense. And it’s very personal to, not only ourselves and all the people who work on it, but also, to other people who have been able to relate so deeply to the characters or see their experiences being reflected through Rue. So. we take that very seriously. And it’s definitely challenging, it’s a challenging season. It’s gonna be hard and it’s gonna be devastating sometimes, but I think Rue really deserves all of that care when it comes to her character, because I think she represents a lot for so many people.”

A Tom Holland Appearance?

Zendaya’s Spider-Man: No Way Home costar has petitioned for a role in Euphoria during an interview with iMDb in December 2021. “Listen, I have been petitioning for this for a long time and it has not happened yet and I’m very disappointed,” Tom said at the time.

While chatting with Entertainment Tonight in January 2022, Zendaya said they’ve “talked about” a possible cameo. “He supported me through the whole season,” she shared. “You know, we joke about sneaking him into the background and seeing if someone can spot him.”
