It's no secret that Netflix's new series – and most popular series to date – 13 Reasons Why is taking over the world. Everyone is watching it, talking about it and hoping the season 2 announcement is just around the corner. Whether you binge-watched the show or decided to take your time with it, the characters are easy to fall in love with.

Not only are they super relatable but they deal with issues that sometimes teens and high school students are afraid to talk about. The show grapples with suicide, friendship, and relationships – it's not your average sitcom drama.

Selena Gomez Reveals Why She Originally Wanted to Play Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why

Now that we may think we know the characters, it's time to get to know the actresses and actors that play these characters. We specifically decided to dive into Katherine Langford's* background. Katherine plays the role of Hannah Baker on 13 Reasons why and she has been continually praised for her work ever since the series came out.

Not only is this girl really freaking talented but she's a newcomer to the biz which makes her work that much more impressive. She holds her own alongside Dylan Minnette and Selena Gomez has become not only a mentor but a friend. One thing is for sure, Katherine has come a long way from her home in Australia.

Did you know that found out she got the part for Hannah Baker and only had TEN DAYS to get a passport that would allow her to move from Austrailia to California and start working? Talk about a crazy few days that must have been! And did you know that she actually bought a piano for her apartment so that she could lighten her mood after a long day of filming 13 Reasons Why? Katherine is originally from Perth, Australia and has a thick accent from her native country. The American accent that fans hear her speak in throughout the 13 Reasons Why series is just for the role!

13 Reasons Why is Katherine's big break and first role in a television series. Before the show she had acted in one indie film in Aussie called Daughters. Aside from that she played a role in two plays, Evita and Godspell. Katherine is currently being praised for her work on 13 Reasons Why.

Katherine is a huge Lady Gaga fan. It was actually the "Born This Way" singer that moved Katherine to really pursue the arts and the music world. Katherine said in a previous interview, "It was like a spiritual experience. I was so moved by her [Lady Gaga] performance that I went home and that week I taught myself how to play piano."

Once Lady Gaga heard this, she was compelled to let Katherine know she knew who she was.

Aside from being an incredibly talented actress, Katherine is super sporty. During her high school years, Katherine was a nationally ranked swimmer. You go, girl!

Katherine has admitted that she always wished and fantasized about being a high school student in America. In a previous interview she said, "This may just be me, but I feel like everyone's dream is to live as an American high school student. There are so many teen films set in America that you live vicariously through them, anyway. But it was totally different. I got to experience Halloween, and prom, and cheerleaders . . . and the Fourth of July! It was crazy. It was definitely different. For me, personally, it was so weird and bizarre because it actually felt really, really realistic."

Katherine only recently went public on Instagram and that's all because of Selena Gomez!

She said, "It was a bit of a big decision for me actually, because I wanted to be an actor purely for the acting work. I have never been attracted to increasing my popularity or hireability by being on Instagram. Selena pointed out that the show is targeting young adults like me and that [social media] is a good medium to talk directly with those who relate to my character, Hannah."

While this might seem strange, Katherine didn't actually read the book 13 Reasons Why before starting to film. She said, "I hadn't read the book prior. I think if I had, I probably would have put a lot more pressure on myself because it's a book that so many people identify with and are protective of."

Because she's from Austrailia, Katherine only saw snow for the first time several months ago. It's being reported that it happened during a trip to New York City while doing press for 13 Reasons Why.

Katherine landed her role as Hannah Baker on 13 Reasons Why over a Skype audition. The casting director never even met her in person before choosing her for the part. So what does this mean? She was THAT good!
