On Tuesday, August 11, Sam Fender took the stage and performed at what is being called the “world’s first socially distanced” concert, according to Buzzfeed.

Hosted at the Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle, England, the musician sang a full show for 2,500 people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But get this — throughout the night, people seemingly stayed six feet from each other the whole time. That’s right, pods were set up on a large field, with each one spaced out and positioned 6.5 feet apart, BBC News reported. Up to five people were allowed in each one. Signs were also posted throughout the entire show to remind concert goers to stay socially distant and use hand sanitizer. The venue also has plans to host multiple shows throughout August and September following the same protocols.

As fans know, due to the current outbreak, many events, concerts, award shows, conventions and festivals have been canceled, including all Broadway plays and sports games. People are urged to stay indoors, avoid public places and isolate themselves during this time. But now, Sam has made history with the first-ever socially distant concert, which may become a reality for all of us soon. Scroll through our gallery to check out photos from the event.
