Time's Up: Why Is Everyone Wearing White Roses to the Grammys?

The Time's Up campaign continues to be the focus on awards season this year, which is why you may notice all the white roses at the 2018 Grammy Awards. This year, both presenters and nominees will wear white roses in support of the Time's Up movement that's been sweeping Hollywood. The initiative exists to put an end to sexual assault – not only in the entertainment industry, but everywhere.

After the announcement was released, Billboard reported that so many stars immediately got on board – Halsey, Kelly Clarkson, Dua Lipa and Rita Ora, to name a few.

The initiative also spread its message at the Golden Globes, where celebrities and attendees wore black as a demonstration designed to shed light on the huge epidemic that is sexual assault. Now, an organization by the name of Voices in Entertainment banded together to support the Time's Up movement by asking attendees of the Grammys to do the same. Just this time, it's roses instead of black ensembles.

"As we are inspired by the #timesup campaign, we are encouraging the artists that we work with and our colleagues attending the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York City to wear a white rose to the ceremony on Sunday, January 28th," Voices in Entertainment said in a statement.

So why the white rose? Well, the flower is actually very symbolic – as it stands for hope, peace, sympathy and resistance.

"We choose the white rose because historically it stands for hope, peace, sympathy and resistance," the letter continued. "Please join us in support of equal representation in the workplace, for leadership that reflects the diversity of our society, workplaces free of sexual harassment and a heightened awareness of accountability that our sisters started on January 1st and continued through the Golden Globes and onward."

Awards shows aren't the only way stars are making their voices heard to end sexual assault. Just last week, many came out for the 2018 Women's March – where Halsey delivered a raw, emotional speech.

Keep it up, ladies.
