Yara Shahidi's character on black-ish is on her own. Kind of! Zoey Johnson leaves her parents' nest to attend college at the fictional CalU, creating her own spin-off show called grown-ish. What kind of antics are Zoey and her friends going to get into? Let's find out.

First off, let's cover the basics. What is grown-ish about?

Behind every great girl is a whole host of great friends. Zoey's gang of misfits are basically the only thing getting her through the labyrinth that is college! Her first friend is sophomore Aaron Jackson, played by Trevor Jackson (who happens to be close friends with Zendaya). They actually met during grown-ish's pilot episode, which took place during black-ish's Season 3.

Later, Zoey meets Luca (Luka Sabbat), Nomi (Emily Arlook), Jazz (Chloe Bailey), Sky (Halle Bailey), Vivek, and (Jordan Buhat) when they all enroll in a super boring class. They're the Breakfast Club of their midnight to 2 a.m. class. Selena Gomez's BFF Francia Raisa plays Ana, the first friend Zoey makes at university! They're all trying to navigate the dangerous waters of CalU. We're excited to see what happens with the grown-ish cast.

Zoey may be in college, but don't think her parents will let her get away that easily! Played by Tracee Ellis-Ross and Anthony Anderson, Rainbow and Andre Johnson will make appearances in the new spin-off. The trailer makes it super clear that they're not holding back! grown-ish is going to get as real as much as it's going to be lit. That's college, for you.

Who sings the grown-ish theme song? None other than Chloe x Halle!

The singing duo (who also play Jazz and Sky in the show) have a song coming out soon called "Grown." So, it only makes sense that that's the song to play in grown-ish's intro. he song features lyrics like "Watch out world. I'm grown now!" and "Momma, look, I'm grown now!" So cute! It fits perfectly with the theme of grown-ish and, of course, Chloe x Halle sound amazing!

What happens in grown-ish Season 1, Episode 1?

When we left Zoey on black-ish the recent high school grad was off to college. Now that she's settled in, the real work begins. Not homework! Forging those friendships (and relationships) that are meant to last a lifetime. Her first attempt doesn't go so great.
