Prepare yourselves, grown-ish fans. The brand new Freeform show we've all instantly fell in love with is coming back for more. And if our rant (positive rant, that is) about why grown-ish is like the best show ever didn't already give you the hint, let it be known that we here at J-14 are huge fans of Yara Shahidi's black-ish spin-off. That is why we were beyond thrilled to find out that the Freeform series is being renewed for a second season. Did you hear that? Yeah, that's us who was squealing.
The network gave grown-ish a very early renewal, as the show just premiered on January 3 and is only four episodes in so far. Clearly, it is already a success. Yara learned that she was getting a second batch of episodes while on a panel discussion at the first-ever Freeform Summit. She was speaking about the importance of the representation of diverse TV characters when all of the sudden, Kenya Barris (the creator of grown-ish) dropped the bombshell that Yara would be getting 20 more episodes of her show. Her reaction is oh so precious.
USA Today reported that the news actually got leaked to Yara before the big reveal at the presentation, as a reporter congratulated her on the second season. But tbh, Yara just assumed they were getting her show mixed up with someone else's.
"For me, I just assume there’s so many brown people on Freeform now that they probably got me confused with another show," she said.
The whole cast is so excited for the opportunity to continue on their character's journey, as many of them took to social media to celebrate.
Chloe and Halle wrote, "yooooo when you wake up remembering @grownish got renewed for a 20 episode season 2!!!!! 😭🙏🏽✨✨✨ so so so grateful."
Emily Arlook took to Twitter to share the news, and it's safe to say we're all just as pumped.
We can't wait to see what's in store!
