ExclusiveGunnar Gehl Dishes On The Inspiration Behind His Debut Single ‘Ocean Blue’

Prepare for Gunnar Gehl to be your new music obsession. The 17-year-old pop singer is making his debut by opening for PRETTYMUCH on their upcoming US tour, and we here at J-14 are premiering his first new single “Ocean Blue.” Listen to the song here.

While music has been in Gunnar’s blood ever since he played his grandfather’s piano at age 7, the California native just decided to seriously pursue his singing career in the past year. He began by posting cover songs to his Instagram – and due to an overwhelmingly positive reaction, he started performing original songs for his followers. The rest, as they say, is history!

We caught up with the singer, and he spilled all about the inspiration behind “Ocean Blue.” You see, the song is about a girl he once met that he just couldn’t get out of his head – so sweet!

“I had this real life experience walking past a girl on the beach, ” he explains. “I like to [sing about] something that’s true to me so that when I sing it 100 times, it’s always real,” Gunnar tells us.

“We walked past each other and both looked at each other at the same time,” the singer says, explaining the story behind the song. “I could just see her eyes that completely matched the ocean.”

“I’ve always loved the ocean, and although some might think the song is about the ocean, it really is about the eyes of this girl I’ll probably never see again,” Gunnar explains. “I wished I would have said something to her, but hey it made for a dope song.”

“I chose this song as my first single because it’s a song my fans can sing along with me, and makes me ‘feel’ the best,” he says.
