Hailee Steinfeld New Album 'Half Written Story' About Niall Horan

It’s happening, you guys! After months of anticipation, Hailee Steinfeld just announced that her upcoming EP, Half Written Story, is coming out on May 8, 2020, and we have all the exciting details.

“This project is a collection of songs that are so special to me and I’m incredibly proud of,” Hailee shared on her Instagram Stories. “This is the first body of work I’ve put out since my debut project in 2016 and I can’t wait for everyone to hear these new songs.”

Yep, that means exactly what you think it means. We are just weeks away from a bunch of brand new songs from the “Starving” songstress — and we can’t wait! But wait, how many tunes will be on the EP and what are they called? What does the album artwork look like? Has the 23-year-old shared any details on who the songs will be about or what they will sound like? And most importantly — can fans expect the brunette beauty to throw any shade towards her ex-boyfriend Niall Horan in the lyrics?

Will there be any songs about Niall on ‘Half Written Story?’

For those who forgot, rumors first started swirling that the One Direction member and the 23-year-old were dating back in February 2018, after they were spotted getting pretty cozy at a Backstreet Boys concert. And when they were photographed smooching in August 2018, fans of the couple got all the confirmation that they had been waiting for. But they unfortunately called it quits in December of the same year, and after they went their separate ways, it definitely didn’t seem like they ended on great terms. Why? Well, Hailee seemingly shaded the pop star multiple times on her Instagram Stories, and she even allegedly called him a “narcissist.”

So will the album be about her relationship with Niall? Well, Hailee hasn’t divulged any info on who inspired her new songs just yet, but there’s a lot of speculation that the two tracks which are out already were based off of her whirlwind romance with the singer.

When “Wrong Direction” dropped in January 2020, fans were quick to assume that the power ballad was about him, based off the name of the song and the name of his band. In the lyrics, she even seemingly alleged that Niall had cheated on her.

“Lookin’ back, I probably should have known / But I just wanted to believe that you were out sleepin’ alone / Loved me with your worst intentions / Didn’t even stop to question,” the lyrics read. “Every time you burned me down / Don’t know how for a moment it felt like heaven / Loved me with your worst intentions / Painted us a happy ending.”

As for “I Love Yous,” that song came out in March 2020 and is all about being hurt after a breakup and not feeling ready to love again — and there were definitely a lot of clues that it’s about Niall.

“No more I love you’s / Until I’m OK / I blamed it on the time zones / I blamed it on my eyes closed / I blamed it on the world like it owes me / No more I love you’s / Until I’m OK,” she sings in the emotional track.

Listeners quickly started to speculate that the “time zones” line was a reference to the “Slow Hands” crooner, since he lives in London and she lives in Los Angeles.

“I think when we get into certain situations we sort of make excuses or we look to whatever we can to sort of take the blame away from ourselves when we know what’s right and we know what’s wrong,” she later explained to MTV Australia about the song. “It’s that head versus heart thing, where your mind is telling you one thing and your heart is telling you another. What you want is not what you need or what you should have. It’s like when you know that stuff, you blame it on all of these elements that could be to blame but not really.”

Guess we’ll have to wait and see if she throws any more shade towards her ex in the new songs!
