Calling all Hunger Games fans, this is the best news ever! Yep, Josh Hutcherson is “100%” down to reprise his fan-favorite role as Peeta Mellark for the film series’ upcoming prequel and we’re seriously freaking out.

“That would be great,” he told Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of joining the new movie. “I love that whole cast and crew. If they can get some of the same people involved, [I would do it] no question.”

As fans know, back in May, Deadline announced that The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was set to transport readers back into the Hunger Games world with a brand new movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter“The Hunger Games prequel film will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem. Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the 10th Hunger Games, only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.”

Although the prequel is set to take place before his character’s time, Josh would love to step back into Peeta’s shoes once more time.

“I don’t know anything about it story-wise, but if it has to do with how we got to the world of the Hunger Games, then I think that’s going to be super-interesting,” the 27-year-old added, when speaking with ET. “I would like Peeta to be in it because I would like to be with these people again and work more in that world.”

When it comes to the rest of his former cast members, Josh doesn’t know where they stand on the prequel, but he revealed that they’re still super close. In fact, he even had a socially distanced dinner with Jennifer Lawrence during the coronavirus quarantine.

“I saw Jen during quarantine — got to have dinner together,” he gushed. “It was like mid-summer maybe [and] we had a nice socially-distanced dinner together. [It] was good to catch up with her because she’s been off living her life in other places all over the world.”

He added, “And, I saw Liam [Hemsworth] towards the end of last year, but this year he’s been off in Australia. We catch up every time we can. I got to see Woody [Harrelson] not too long ago, so it’s good. No matter how much time passes, once we see each other again, it’s instantly right back to where it was.”

It’s official, we need to see these stars together again ASAP!
