Soon enough, the world will get to see Kiernan Shipka take on the role of the beloved Archie Comics character, Sabrina Spellman. You know, the teenage witch, in Netflix’s upcoming series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This show seems a lot darker than other versions of Sabrina that have been made in the past and if anyone can bring this Sabrina to life, it’s Kiernan. She might only be 18-year-old, but she’s been acting for so many years now and c’mon, girl is totally fierce and fabulous and no doubt slays her role. But since she’s playing a witch, naturally, you might find yourself wondering is she really a witch?

Well, no, but she did admit to Byrdie that she’s all about that witch life and has an interest and a respect in those who practice magic.

“I approach everything with a little bit of skepticism, and I’m not going to call myself a witch by any means because I know that there are practicing witches out there. But I definitely do believe in and vibe with that kind of stuff. I love looking at astrology. Whenever I need some advice, I’m just like, ‘okay, what are they telling the Scorpios to do today?’ Sabrina is a Scorpio, I’m a Scorpio, our showrunner is a Scorpio — it’s a very Scorpio-heavy show,” she said.

“I’ve got some crystals, too, and I’ve been using them as of late, mostly for healing purposes. I cleansed them under the moon; I did the whole thing. The drink I make myself in the morning is pretty witchy, too. I’m just getting into this stuff. I’m not super versed or anything. Just dabbling. But I definitely am into witches and all the different interpretations of them that there have been through time. They’re just cool, interesting women. There’s a reason they’ve been a fixture for such a long time. Bring on the witches.”

So there we have it: Kiernan isn’t actually a witch herself, she just plays one on her show! But since she’s immersed in this world, she naturally is curious about witches in general. At the end of the day, she’s just paying respect to those she draws inspiration from to get into character and better understand Sabrina Spellman’s world. Basically, if you happen to run into Kiernan, you won’t see her doing any spells like she does on CAOS. Good to know.
