By now, pretty much the whole world knows about James Charles and Tati Westbrook‘s scandal. Their falling out was made extremely public when Tati decided to upload a 40-minute-long video, exposing the beauty guru for manipulating straight men and being a downright awful friend. Now that both parties have agreed to talk through their issues privately, we thought perhaps the drama would’ve subsided. However, people are now coming at James, claiming the social media break he took amid the scandal was only for sympathy. Uh oh.

If you were as deeply invested in the scandal as we were, you know the 20-year-old stayed off his social accounts for several days as millions of people unsubscribed to his channel. But after making a public appearance on Tuesday, May 21 at Kylie Jenner‘s launch party for Kylie Skin, he’s responding to fans who think he faked his short social media hiatus altogether.

“Social media is a part of my life and I like keeping up with all of you, and I know a lot of you like keeping up with me!” the makeup artist wrote. “Posting a few stories of me smiling doesn’t mean I’m ‘better’ or my break was for sympathy. it means I’m trying to move on with my life and better myself!”

“I said I wouldn’t be filming for a bit and would pop in on my other socials, point being to focus on living rather than forcing content,” he added. “Healing for me consists of doing things that make me happy, such as playing with makeup & being social, instead of laying in bed all day.”

Well, there you have it, folks! James has had enough of moping around from the emotionally draining scandal he was just fully involved in, so for him, returning to social media was an attempt to show his fans that he’s ready to move on with his life. And if an event hosted by Kylie Jenner with roller skating and pink sushi is what it takes to get him back to his old self again, so be it.
