Upper East Siders, prepare to scratch your heads because the world of Gossip Girl as we know it could have been completely different. Everyone by now knows that no one other than Blake Lively could have played the role of Serena van der Woodsen on the hit CW show. She embodied the role like no other, but if casting had gone a little different Blake as Serena may never have happened!
The show’s creator, Josh Schwartz revealed to Vulture in a new interview that none other than Jennifer Lawrence auditioned for the part of Serena back in the day. He admitted, “We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned. This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it.”
Wow! At the time, it might have seemed like a big deal to Jennifer but her career seems to have been just fine without landing that iconic role. Who knows, if she had gotten to play Serena over Blake, then that might have meant that The Hunger Games world as we know it could also have been totally different!
That’s almost too weird to think about since there’s pretty much nobody else who could have embodied the role of Katniss Everdeen. Also, would that mean her friendships with Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth would cease to exits too? Now that’s one alternate universe fans probably don’t want to think about. Obviously, this situation is the perfect example of things happening for a particular reason.
Being one of Manhattan’s elite was not in the cards for the Silver Linings Playbook star, and we doubt there’s any bad blood over it. First of all, that was years ago and the show's been off the air for a while now; and both Jen and Blake have gone on to accomplish great things in their respective careers. Everything happened just as it was supposed to for both starlets.
