Looking back. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were a celebrity power couple after taking things public. However, they weren’t in it for the long haul. Joe officially filed for divorce from Sophie in September 2023, citing that their marriage was “irretrievably broken,” according to court documents obtained by J-14 at the time.
While Sophie wasn’t a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers member initially — she once noted that she “hated” the musical group — the Game of Thrones alum did fall in love with Joe. The couple first met back in 2016 after Joe slid into her Instagram DMs.
“We had a lot of mutual friends and they’d been trying to introduce us for a long time,” Sophie told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. in March 2019. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct messaged me one fine day, out of the blue.”
Then, they met up at a pub in London while the Jonas Brothers were on tour.
“I expected him to show up with security and everything. I thought he would be such a d–k,” Sophie told Elle U.K. in March 2020 about their first date. “The best thing was that he didn’t bring security … I remember us two spending only a couple of minutes on the dance floor, and then we found a space in the far corner and we just talked.”
She continued, “We talked for hours, and hours and hours. And I wasn’t bored. It wasn’t contrived, it wasn’t small talk — it was just so easy. Soon, we were inseparable. And then I went on tour with him.”
They announced their engagement in October 2017, and tied the knot two years later (twice). Their first wedding took place in Las Vegas following the Billboard Music Awards in May 2019. The second ceremony was hosted in France one month later. In July 2020, Joe and Sophie welcomed their first child together — a daughter named Willa. Their second child — whose name has yet to be revealed — was born in July 2022.
Rumors that there might be trouble in paradise between the two started swirling in early September 2023, with Joe filing for divorce days later.
