The only good outcome to a boy band breaking up is the amazing solo music that comes out of it. One Direction has Flicker, Harry Styles, and Mind of Mine so far. * NSYNC got Justin Timberlake’s entire discography. Now, New District’s Julian Martel is stepping out and following in the footsteps of past boy band members. J-14 exclusively caught up with the 17-year-old singer to get all the details about his newest music. Julian has previously released the song “Birthday,” proving that his smooth voice can hold its own. Now, his latest song “Get Over It" is making waves.
“There's just so much stuff going on in this world these days,” Julian explains. “I feel like you should just not get caught up in the little things. Who wants to fight? Who likes to fight? I just want to have fun.”
When he isn’t making music, that’s exactly what Julian is up to: having fun. After three months of “working everyday, doing photo shoots, going to the studio, [and] writing,” Julian took a much needed break to hang out with his bros in Team 10!
“We just wanted to have as much fun as possible, so we went to the jungle and took pictures out there. We went shark diving, which was amazing,” Julian said. “It was my first time in Hawaii and actually my second time, in my life, at the ocean except for here, in Malibu.”
To mark such a special occasion, Julian, Alex Lange, the Martinez twins, Tristan Tales, and Chad Tepper decided that Hawaii was the perfect place to film the music video for "Get Over It."
“We were there and we were like "Yeah, why don't we just film a music video?’” he told J-14. “It kind of just happened.”
So, when should we expect to see the video? Right now, a short trailer for the music video is on his Youtube channel (where he also posts covers). As for the real deal, Julian says we can expect it sometime in the next few days!
"Get Over It" isn’t the only thing fans should be excited for, though. Julian says he’s been working hard to release an entire EP of original music. He doesn’t want to say too much yet, but just know it’s coming “very, very soon.” Julian's former bandmates have already heard a little peek and they're huge fans, so we can't wait.
When it does come, it’ll be full of songs like ones you already love! Julian calls Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, and Ed Sheeran his music inspirations. He personally loves "There’s Nothin’ Holding Me Back" by Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran’s entire Multiply album. Plus, JB was the one who originally inspired him to get into music. At this rate, we're willing to bet that Julian Martel will be on Shawn Mendes' level in no time!
