Following a whirlwind romance that reignited in June 2018, the couple got engaged in July of that same year. They officially tied the knot two months later in a low-key ceremony. “There’s a lot more confidence in my relationships,” Justin told fans during his October 2020 YouTube documentary Justin Bieber: Next Chapter.
Celebrating their one-year anniversary, the couple got married again — this time in front of family and friends. Justin and Hailey had actually met in 2009, nearly 10 years before saying their “I dos.” They were introduced through the model’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, who was friends with Justin’s mom, and quickly became best friends. After dating briefly in 2016 and calling it quits, the pair rekindled their relationship in 2018 … or so fans thought. While chatting with model Ashley Graham on a November 2020 episode of her “Pretty Big Deal” podcast, Hailey cleared up the timeline of her and Justin’s relationship.
“People don’t know, too, we had been talking for a while before we got back together,” she explained. “Contrary to popular belief, he had been single for a while, and I had been single, and we were kind of just trying to figure life out.”
And figure life out they did! Now, the couple have no qualms about sharing the ins and outs of their love via social media and in various interviews.
“We were friends first for a really long time before there was anything romantic,” Hailey explained during a March 2021 interview with Elle magazine in March 2021. “But we always knew that we were aligned on what we wanted in our future. We had talked about wanting to be married young and having a family young and building a life. Even before we knew we wanted to be with each other.”
The model continued: “I learn new things about him and about myself and about our relationship all the time. Do we have little fights and stuff that we have to work through sometimes? Yeah, of course, but it really doesn’t ever feel like work, because I love him so much. I see forever with him.”
Justin and Hailey have even spoken publicly about having kids. “There’s not really an issue, but I think Hailey still has some things she wants to accomplish as a woman,” Justin shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2020. “And I think she just is not ready yet, and I think that’s OK.”
