Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson brought Bella Swan and Edward Cullen's epic, supernatural love story to life and fans of The Twilight Saga films couldn't help but freak out over the fact that these two fell in love off-screen too. As much as everyone wanted to see them have the happily ever after, together forever ending like their characters had, Kristen and Rob's relationship crumbled back in 2013. And all these years later, the starlet is still dropping some secrets about their time together. In a new interview, Kristen explained how she used to be super private about her love life, mostly because of all the attention she and Rob used to get, which wasn't always positive.
"I didn't talk about my first relationships that went public because I wanted things that are mine to be mine. I hated it that details of my life were being turned into a commodity and peddled around the world," she explained. "When I was dating Rob, the public was the enemy—and that is no way to live."
But since the end of Robsten, the actress has gone on to have more relationships, noticeably dating women. She recently publicly came out to the world, saying she's "so gay" when she hosted Saturday Night Live, and she credits the fact that she chose to keep details of her high-profile relationship with Rob so secretive as part of the reason why she now feels the need to be more open about who she's dating.
"But considering I had so many eyes on me, I suddenly realized [my private life] affects a greater number of people than just me. It was an opportunity to surrender a bit of what was mine, to make even one other person feel good about themselves," she said about deciding to acknowledge to sexuality on such a public platform.
So although Rob and Kristen's romance didn't last, that chapter in Kristen's life has helped her reach the place of true happiness she is in now that she feels a duty to share and possibly help someone else in the process. She doesn't have anything to hide, something she's spoken about before when she opened up about how hard it was being in a relationship that seemed like the whole world had a stake in.
"People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me," Kristen once shared. "It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value."
Kristen just wants to live her life as authentically as she can, and if being more open about who has her heart is part of that, then so be it. Girl wants everyone to know she's happy being who she is and that is what's most inspiring.
